Potatoes au Gratin

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb potatoes, thinly sliced, rinsed, patted dry
- 1 ea large yellow onion, thin half-slices
- 1 T fresh marjoram, oregano, dill, rosemary, sage or tarragon, chopped
- 1 t fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 T flour
- 1 C cheese (Gruyere, Jarlsberg, or Blue), shredded
- 2 T butter
- 1/2 C dry white wine
- 1/2 C chicken stock
- 1/2 C whipping cream
- 1/2 C Parmesan cheese, grated
- 3 T bread crumbs
- fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Toss the potatoes, onion, spices, flour and cheese in a large bowl, season to taste. Spread the mixture in a buttered baking dish, then dot small bits of butter on the potatoes.
- Combine the wine, stock and cream, then pour over the potatoes and press the mixture down with a spoon. Bake covered at 350 for 1 hour.
- Combine the bread crumbs and Parmesan and sprinkle over the potatoes. Bake uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove from oven and let stand 10 to 15 minutes.
- Plate, garnish with parsley and serve.
